Living on an island city, whose history and present are intrinsically tied to the sea, we often overlook its looming presence. ART MUMBAI Gateway, Art and Wonderment and Bombay Gypsea hosted a sail that looked through history to find artworks inspired by the sea, discussing works by artists like S H Raza, V S Gaitonde, Aditi Singh, N Pushpamala, Rana Begum, Lavanya Mani and Hanif Kureshi, among others. We dove into stories of unforgettable, yet sometimes rarely seen, works of modern and contemporary art from the Indian subcontinent - inspired by the ever-present Arabian Sea!
Led by Alisha Sadikot and Nishita Zachariah, Art & Wonderment’s art walks stimulate new ways of seeing, sharing and thinking about the art on view in Mumbai, while adding to the growing conversation on modern and contemporary art. With over 10 years of experience working together to build public audiences for art, they design and lead experiences for absolutely everyone.
The Bombay Gypsea is a Mumbai-based sailing company that organises boat trips from the Bombay Harbour– from leisure sunset sails to curated, themed journeys. Human and pet-friendly, it makes sailing accessible and fun for all.
