Tyeb Mehta, Falling Bird, 1999 | Collection: Kiran Nadar Museum of Art | Copyright: Tyeb Mehta Foundation
Presented by the Kiran Nadar Museum of Art (KNMA) in collaboration with the Tyeb Mehta Foundation and Saffronart Foundation, this major solo exhibition commemorates the birth centenary of Tyeb Mehta (1925–2009), one of India’s most iconic modernists. Opening on 13 November 2025 at ART MUMBAI, the exhibition brings together Mehta’s most celebrated series alongside rarely seen early drawings and paintings.
Curated by Roobina Karode (Director and Chief Curator, KNMA), the exhibition serves as a prelude to Mehta’s forthcoming retrospective at KNMA, New Delhi. Following its presentation at ART MUMBAI, it will be on view at Saffronart Gallery, Mumbai, from 18 to 30 November 2025, before the retrospective opens in February 2026 at the Kiran Nadar Museum of Art.
Across seven decades of practice, Tyeb Mehta explored the human condition through recurring motifs such as the bull, the falling figure and mythic protagonists like Mahishasura and Kali. His distilled compositions, marked by bold planes and weightless spaces, reflect on fragility, endurance and the universal search for balance and being.
The exhibition is located at the Foundations' Exhibit at the centre of ART MUMBAI. Tickets for the fair are available here.
