ICMD

The “Institute of Classical and Modern Dance” was founded by Pia Sutaria to fill the void of a vocational education for young and passionate dancers and performers in India, by bridging the gap between hobby classes and a vocational education. We focus on mentoring students to apply to full time and part time performing arts programs and conservatories around the world, and equip them with the necessary training to be able to attend such programs. The school is designed to develop the technical ability of a young dancer as they study both Western and Indian Classical dance forms, appear for a graded certificate examination of the Royal Academy of Dance, also providing training and performance opportunities to young dancers by connecting them to industry professionals, both in India and Internationally. As an educational institute, we provide students with consistent, intensive, goal-oriented training in Classical Ballet, Kathak, Modern Dance, Jazz technique and supplementary training in theory, dance history, anatomy and Creative practice. Since ICMD's inception in 2018, our students have been accepted into renowned international performing arts schools like NYU Tisch, The Juilliard School, the Rambert School, Paris Marais Dance School, Alvin Ailey, Joffrey Ballet, ArtsEd London, Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts, and many more. In the past year, ICMD students have been invited to work on and perform at two of India’s most prestigious theatres, the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Center and National Center for Performing Arts as well as for a diverse range of professional projects. ICMD also recently were invited to perform in London, England at the Royal Academy of Dance Headquarters and at The Place, with the Center for Advanced Training UK. Their commercial credits over the past year the opening performance for FDCI’s India Couture Week for world renowned designers Falguni and Shane Peacock, a performance at Jio World Drive for the launch of luxury brand Coach in Mumbai, a nationwide campaign shoot for the apparel brand Westside, a ballet performance, Coppelia at the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Center, and most recently a performance for the hair care brand Schwarzkopf, amongst many others.
