TRIBAL THREADS:
INDIA'S CANVAS
Concept & Curated
by
RITU BHANDARI
Age, as it turns out, is merely a number - a concept I have
come to grasp more deeply now that I am 64 years old. Just two years ago, I
embarked on an inspiring new journey centered around exploring and promoting
the tribal and heritage arts of India, driven by my immense passion for Indian
art and culture. This adventurous undertaking has guided me through an
extraordinarily captivating and demanding landscape, filled with valuable
encounters and experiences.
Throughout my travels, I have been privileged to meet
numerous incredibly talented tribal artists residing in the isolated corners of
various Indian states. Learning from these humble creative souls has been an
enlightening experience, offering insights into their deep-rooted connection to
nature, their conscious use of natural resources, the simplicity imbued in
their way of living, and their unwavering commitment to preserving their
ancient artistic traditions. It becomes abundantly clear that India's opulent
artistic legacy is something that must be cherished, nurtured, and handed down
through generations.
Presently, my primary mission is to raise awareness about
these stunning traditional art forms and prevent them from disappearing under
the crushing weight of modernity. It is my heartfelt aspiration that all
citizens of India will unite to ensure the survival and recognition of our
native art forms. The Mumbai Art Fair exemplifies a fantastic stage for
showcasing these extraordinary works of art and fostering meaningful
conversations with fellow art aficionados who can support this noble effort.
United in our love for these artistic expressions, we can continue our
celebration of the vivid cultural tapestry that defines India's unique
identity.
